WE’KOQMA’Q, NS – We’koqma’q Chief and Council are pleased to announce the acquisition of Keltic Quay on October 1, 2026. Keltic Quay is an established tourism and hospitality business located directly on the Bras d’Or Lakes in the Village of Whycocomagh. The property lies within We’koqma’q’s ancestral and claimed territory and features 12 rental suites and a main lodge.
The acquisition reflects We’koqma’q’s continued focus on building a strong, self-sustaining economy through investment in established local businesses.
“This is a strong business with a great reputation and an established client base. We see an opportunity to build on that success, support the business for the long term and create new economic opportunities for We’koqma’q,” said John L. Bernard, Chief of We’koqma’q.
Keltic Quay joins a growing portfolio of We’koqma’q investments and partnerships that includes Clearwater Seafoods, Pure Canadian Gaming, Glenview RV Park & Campground and Skye Communications.
Keltic Quay contributes to Chief and Council’s broader vision for tourism, gathering and connection to the land, while creating future opportunities for employment, training, accommodations and Mi’kmaw tourism experiences.
“Over the past 22 years, our team has developed one of Cape Breton’s premier resort destinations. We are proud of our achievements and high guest satisfaction. We are pleased that We’koqma’q will carry forward our commitment to excellence and customer service. We congratulate them on the acquisition and wish them continued success with the resort,” says Steve Smith, CEO, Nova Capital Incorporated Ltd.
Over time, the property may create additional opportunities for employment, training, expanded accommodations and Mi’kmaw tourism experiences.
We’koqma’q will build on the strong guest experience and reputation already established, while providing the business with stable, long-term ownership.
